Theory of Gastronomy: Let the Éclairs take you on a sinful date

The nip in the air is surely giving some early festive excitement. Look around in Delhi NCR and you are sure to discover something new. Not brand new, though. Unlike donuts, which have been experimented a zillionth times and done to death, humble éclair has found its much deserved space in the confectioner’s corner.

If you are still confused, you haven’t been in Noida yet. Step in here and you are surely confront this comforting combination of crunchy, airy pâte a choux pastry filled with sweet creams and custards, all in an elegant, easy-to-eat package. KA Eclairs and Kafé has just been opened in the Sector 18 market. This is the same place where Kafiaa used to be. Taking into account, the loyal fan following of Kafiaa, the current owners have emphasized on the sweet tooth, while coming up with a grand Italian menu.

As we walk down the basement, KA Eclairs and Kafé wears a distinct bistro look. Though the space is limited, the Kafe utilizes the whole of it very well. As we go through the menu, we thank the owners Varun and Manas for their guts to offer a no-Indian menu in the market overly done with Butter Chicken and Murgh Malai tikka.
The menu has everything Italian and Continental. The best part is the bakery offering though, which I shall come later.

Chef Tarun, who brings with him Italian experience heads the kitchen here. He guided us on one of the specialties of the kitchen. For starters we tried a platter of Fish Croquettes, Pesto Chicken and Vegan Tarts.
The Fish Croquettes are a bomb of flavours. The tenderness of the fish can still be felt in spite of a rugged combination of milk, onion and garlic. Besides the hint of pepper enhances the taste. Vegan Tarts are like normal tarts, just the fact is it’s loaded with vegan cheese and seasonal vegetables. I admit the fact that I was dicey about the taste when the Chef first pitched it to us. To give it a try, it was pure indulgence.

Then followed the session of pizza and risotto. The pizza, the chef recommended was Meatball picante. While the meatballs add to the deliciousness quotients, the onion rings were like icing on the cake.

Coming to the desserts, KA Éclairs and Kafe is a heaven! You have tons of choices and all suits your budget very well. Serious pastry chefs haven’t given much attention to Éclairs. The ones you get in KA Eclairs and Kafe are a breed different from the ones you get in the franchise dessert outlets here and there. These are freshly made with bold and unique flavours. Chef Tarun’s keen eye to aesthetics have loaded them with flavours, which burst in your mouth with the first bite.

There are Hazelnut, Russian Strawberry, Red Love, Mocha Magic, Nutella and Cookie, Mango Pistachio and tons of others to choose from. Eclairs are like chameleons. You can add any flavour as you wish and the result will be an Eclairs obsessed clientele. And that’s what’s happening at KA Eclairs and Kafe. Besides the café has taken environment quite seriously. Instead of flowers, they send plants with cakes. Varun said, “Instead of gifting dead flowers to you dear ones, gift them something that actually grows. “

MUST TRY: Besides the pizza, Vegan Tarts, Pesto Chicken and Risotto, you must try the Blueberry Cheese Cake and of course, the éclairs.
